Kulturnatten (culture night) 17th of September

This friday night, Karlstad Kommun arranges Kulturnatten (culture night). That means that there will be plenty of activities all ove town during the evening (6 pm to 11 pm), but mostly focused in the Värmland museum and city library area close to Blue Moon Bar. There will be art exhibits, skateboard shows, live music quiz, a film festival, workshops, belly dancing, lots of music and lots of dancing and much more.
The program is only available in Swedish unfortunately but can be found at: http://www.kulturnattenkarlstad.se/program.html
I suggest that you just go there and see what happens some time during the night. Spontaneity is awesome!
Don't miss it :D

Swedish election 19th of September!

On 19th of September, the Swedish election to the riksdag (the Swedish parliament), the municipalities and to the county councils takes place.
You might have noticed the small cabins on Stora Torget, they are election centras for the different parties in Sweden. The cabins are called "friggebodar" and is a Swedish phenomena. They can be put in your garden (they are ready-made) wihout having to seek building permission so they are rather popular.
Just thought you might want to know :D
On election day, the TV channels (primarily the public service channels which are called SVT, and also tv4) are going to be full of so called "valvakor" which means basically interviews with politicians, the voting process and so on.

You can find more information about the election at:

Tjurruset @ Skutberget 18th of September!

Woho!
Tjurruset is a marathon (not as long though!) for the daring. It's a ten kilometer long marathon which also contains natural and man-built obstacles. It costs 250 SEK if you wish to participate and you can pay via PlusGiro to PlusGiro account 1319-3. Write name, address and birth year as you pay. You will get a number tag at the starting point.
You can find more extensive information at:
http://www.ifgota.se/arr.jsp#
I suggest that you ask someone who speaks Swedish to help you because there's no information in English.

PS: It's also fun to watch! Plenty of sweaty, muddy people to laugh at :P

Sabaton @ Nöjesfabriken 24th of September!

MEEETTTAAAAALLLL!
Like metal? Then you will probably like Sabaton and their supporting act Alestorm. Sabaton is on their world tour and will, of course stop in Karlstad on the 24th of September :D
Sabaton is a band from Falun, Sweden (which is also famous fo the classic red paint, you know the paint you see on cottages with white corners? The red paint is called Falu Rödfärg and is patented!) and they play metal music. Are they awesome? OF COURSE (or so I've heard at least since Sabaton isn't really my type of music)!
They have a very cool MySpace, check it out at: http://www.myspace.com/sabaton

Alestorm is the supporting act and they are following Sabaton all over their world tour (yes, Sabaton is on world tour. Cool, eh?). They play metal music too of course. They are from Scotland, and are very piratey. If you look at their myspace you'll know what I mean!

So, 24th of September! Nöjesfabriken! Here's a link to the event, unofrtunately, and you can also buy tickets at the link. Press "Köp din biljett här på tickster" to buy tickets.

Premiere!

Hi, and welcome!
After lots of arguing and complaining, my computer and I are finally friends. The blog seems to be designed ok for someone who hasn't done this before and that's good enough for me. It's the content that counts, right? ;)

Tomorrow I will start blogging about future activities. There was an ISAK board meeting yesterday, and we discussed future ISAK activities. It's going to be a
great ISAK autumn with plenty of fun activities, trust me!

Meanwhile, check out the awesome links to the right. Or go talk to a neighbour, practise lining up in a queue (Swedish people ALWAYS queue) or learn a foreign language (may I suggest Swedish?).

Also, feel free to give me a tip if you are up to something fun and wants to invite people, or if you have found the perfect kanelbulle (cinnamon roll) or know something else that other exchange students should know.

If you want to contact me, please write an e-mail to activity@isak-kau.se. Or tap on my shoulder in the university hallways, I'm most often very friendly.
